Where do you put bird seed feeders?

When placing seed bird feeders, it's important to consider a few factors to attract wild birds to your garden and ensure their safety. Choose a location that is visible to birds and easily accessible for you to refill and clean the feeder. Birds prefer feeders that are easily accessible and close to natural perching spots. So placing your seed feeder near trees, shrubs, or other vegetation would be ideal. Position the feeder at a height of around 4 to 6 feet.

How to stop seeds falling from bird feeder

A great way to stop seeds from falling from your bird feeders is by attaching a tray to sit underneath. We have the Ring-Pull and Flo Feeder Trays that you can attach to our ring-pull click feeders and flo feeders. Attaching a tray to a feeder will not only stop the seed from falling but also allow ground-feeding birds to eat at the feeder. An alternative option is to consider feeders that come with built-in trays, such as the Heavy Duty Seed Feeder. These feeders offer the convenience of having a tray attached, eliminating the need for an additional accessory.

How long can bird seed stay in a feeder?

As long as the seed doesn't get spoiled, you can keep bird seed in a feeder for up to 3 weeks, but this may vary depending on the type of seed. It's important to use a good quality feeder that prevents the food from getting wet. If the seed does become wet, replace it immediately to avoid it going mouldy and risking the birds' health. To enhance the freshness and longevity of your bird seed, a recommended method is to use Feeder Fresh in your bird feeder prior to adding the bird seed. Feeder Fresh consists of small, harmless pellets that are placed at the bottom of the feeder, effectively preventing the accumulation of bird seed. This simple addition helps maintain the freshness of the bird food, extending its lifespan.
