What Is Personal Data?

Personal data is defined by the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 (collectively, “the Data Protection Legislation”) as ‘any information relating to an identifiable person who can be directly or indirectly identified in particular by reference to an identifier’.

Personal data is, in simpler terms, any information about you that enables you to be identified. Personal data covers obvious information such as your name and contact details, but it also covers less obvious information such as identification numbers, electronic location data, and other online identifiers.

The Data We Collect

Depending upon your use of our website, we may collect and hold some or all of the data set out in the table below. We do not collect every single one of these pieces of data from each visitor to the website, and we do not necessarily store each piece of data:

  • Name
  • Address; postal and billing
  • Email address
  • Telephone number
  • Device information; whether you are accessing the site from a smartphone, tablet, or desktop. This information effects how the site is displayed to you and is required in order to provide you with the fastest experience for your device. It also allows us to provide you with the content best suited to that device in order to make it easiest to view for you.
  • IP (Internet Protocol) address: this number can show us your location (e.g. your town. It does not give us your address or exact location)
  • OS (Operation system): the operating system on your device (IOS, Android, Windows, Linux, MAC OS X)
  • Browser and version: which web browser you are using (e.g. Chrome, Safari, Firefox)
  • Referrer: we can sometimes identify the medium or domain from which you came to our website. For example, if you came from one of our emails, or from an advert online.

We do not collect or store any financial information and card details are not processed through our web platform.

Our card payment processor, Stripe Payments UK LTD, uses an iframe to collect card payments from our website. This means that, whilst it may look like part of our website, your card details are processed directly to our secure payment provider and do not go through our servers. This is a much more secure way of payment processing.

We also use PayPal, which redirects the customer to their own website for the customer to log in and to make the payment directly with PayPal. The customer is redirected back to our website once the payment is complete.

Under the Data Protection Legislation, you have the following rights, which we will always work to uphold:

  • The right to be informed about our collection and use of your personal data.
  • The right to access the personal data we hold about you.
  • The right to have your personal data rectified if any of your personal data held by us is inaccurate or incomplete.
  • The right to be forgotten, i.e. the right to ask us to delete or otherwise dispose of any of your personal data that we hold, if we do not require it for our own legal records.
  • The right to restrict (i.e. prevent) the processing of your personal data.
  • The right to object to us using your personal data for a particular purpose or purposes.
  • The right to withdraw consent. This means that, if we rely on your consent as the legal basis for using your personal data, you are free to withdraw that consent at any time.

This means that, if you have provided personal data to us directly, we are using it with your consent or for the performance of a contract, and that data is processed using automated means, you can ask us for a copy of that personal data to re-use with another service or business in many cases.
