High quality, aflatoxin tested Peanuts for wild birds
Wild birds enjoy feeding on peanuts as they meet all the desired requirements for food. Peanuts offer a perfect balance of protein and oil, which encourage good health and energy levels. It's are the perfect go-to if you are looking to provide a fast energy boost to birds during the most critical times of the year, i.e nesting season and winter.
Are peanuts good for birds?
Peanuts are an excellent food source for birds as they are highly nutritious, rich in protein, and full of essential fat and natural oils. This makes peanuts a fantastic source of energy, especially during nesting season or the winter when natural food is harder to find.
What birds eat peanuts?
Here on the farm, we've seen a wide variety of beautiful bird species feeding on our premium peanuts, including: Robins, Blue Tits, Coal Tits, Great Tits, Long Tailed Tits, Siskins, Great Spotted Woodpeckers and Wrens.
Peanuts are also a favourite for squirrels and other common garden creatures. Squirrels have a reputation for eating all the food, so if you would like to reserve peanuts for just your birds, be sure to keep it out of reach from greedy paws.
Are your peanuts Aflatoxin safe?
Yes, our peanuts are of the highest quality and are Aflatoxin tested. Poorer quality peanuts are highly susceptible to mould during growth and storage. In particular, the fungus Aspergillus Flavus releases large quantities of Aflatoxin. If birds have too much exposure to this highly toxic carcinogen, it can build up in their bodies and eventually lead to death.
Here on Ivel Valley farm, our premium peanuts are independently tested, and we only supply those with zero detection of Aflatoxin. This is to ensure the safety of wild birds.
How to feed peanuts to birds
The best way to feed peanuts to your garden birds is in metal mesh feeders. Many feeders will specify 'for peanuts' in the title; however, any mesh feeder designed for suet pellets will also be suitable. We have a variety of squirrel-proof peanut feeders to choose from.
Using these feeders will prevent birds from taking large peanut pieces that could choke younger birds. The mesh allows the birds to break up the nuts before taking them.
