Black Sunflower bird seeds are popular with many wild garden birds. They have a high oil content so are good energy providers and are suitable for feeding throughout the year.
Black Sunflower Seed for Wild Birds
Using Black Sunflower Seed for Wild Birds
Black Sunflower Seeds are a great all-rounder seed if you're looking to feed or attract wild birds to your garden. As Sunflower Seed tends to attract smaller birds, such as Finches, Tits and Sparrows, we'd recommend using a seed feeder to supply them. Using a seed feeder prevents smaller birds from picking up whole Sunflower Seeds and instead encourages them to peck and chip away at the seeds until they're small, managable pieces.
You can also use Sunflower Seed on bird tables and on the ground, however, as birds dont eat the black husks it's likely that you'll end up with lots of mess and wastage on the ground in your garden. Not only is it possible for this mess to attract vermin to your garden, it could also cause problems for the birds. Wastage from Sunflower Seed can decay and mould which can cause serious harm to any birds that might eat, so if you do feed this seed on a table or on the ground, make sure to clean up the leftovers.
Species that enjoy this bird food include Blue Tits, Great Tits, House Sparrow, Chaffinch, Goldfinch, Greenfinch, Nuthatch and Siskin.
