Product Details

What is Red Millet Seed?

Red Millet seed comes from the same cultivated grass family as White Millet. The crop is mainly grown for human and livestock consumption in semi-arid Africa and Asia. The Red Millet seed is tiny, round, and has a sweet, nutty flavour.

Is Red Millet good for birds?

Red Millet seed is a valuable source of carbohydrates and nutrients for wild birds. Compared to other, cheaper cereals such as wheat, Red Millet also has healthy levels of silica, iron, and vitamin B6. All essential in aiding the development of wild birds. This tiny seed is easy to digest and makes a great additive to existing seed mixes. You can even mix it with various other straight seeds to create your own custom wild bird seed mix.

What birds eat Red Millet Seeds?

Red Millet Seed is a particular favourite for Sparrows, including both House Sparrows and Tree Sparrows. Other bird species that enjoy eating Red Millet are Red Bunting and Finches.

How to feed Red Millet to birds

Red Millet is a popular food amongst ground-feeding birds, so a ground feeder will be a fitting choice. Seed feeders and bird tables will also be suitable for distributing Millet seeds. You can use Red Millet on its own or mix it with an existing seed mix for extra nutrients and make your mixes last longer.

Packaging: 2kg bags of seed are oxo-biodegradable and can be disposed of alongside normal recycled plastics. Our cardboard boxes are also made from recycled materials.
